GEO for hotels & tourism: get recommended by AI when people plan a trip

Updated: 4 August 2026

For a hotel or rental, GEO means being mentioned by AI when someone asks “where should I stay in [area]” or “hotel for [type of trip]”. You win it with a clear profile (who you're for, what you offer, exactly where you are), strong reviews and content that answers questions about the destination — not just a presence on booking platforms.

Travel planning moved first

Tourism is one of the sectors where AI research took off fastest: “7 days in Crete with kids”, “quiet hotel in Santorini for a couple”, “where to stay near the centre of Thessaloniki”.

The answers talk about areas, property types and often specific names. If yours isn't connected to a clear traveller type and a clear location, you're left out.

Be explicit about who you're for

“Luxury hotel with a view” says nothing distinctive. “Family-friendly apartments 300m from the beach, with kitchenettes and private parking” answers a specific question.

Spell out: traveller type (families, couples, business, digital nomads), distance from the places people care about, what's included. In text — not only in icons or photos.

Become a source about the destination, not just the property

Travellers ask about the destination first and where to stay second. Content answering “what to see in 3 days”, “how to get there from the airport”, “where locals eat” gives AI reasons to draw from your site — and to mention the property in the same answer.

Reviews and consistent details

Reviews (Google, booking platforms) are among the strongest trust signals. Consistency matters just as much: name, address and amenities must match everywhere. Contradictions between your site and the platforms confuse the model.

What to do first

  • Check whether AI mentions you for “where to stay in [your area]”.
  • Rewrite your description so it states plainly who you're for and what sets you apart.
  • Add 3-4 destination guides built from real guest questions.
  • Unify details and build reviews. Re-measure every month.

Frequently asked questions

If I'm on Booking and Airbnb, isn't that enough?

It helps, but AI often names properties directly and draws from many sources. You need your own footprint — a site with substantive content and third-party mentions.

Does this work for small properties?

Especially. A small property with a clear identity (“quiet, for couples, breakfast from local produce”) fits targeted questions better than a generic large hotel.

How much does seasonality matter?

Model answers don't shift seasonally the way bookings do. That's why the work is done off-season and pays off in the next one.
