What counts as a good AI Presence Score — and how to read your measurement

Updated: 4 August 2026

An AI Presence Score shows in what share of the questions your customers would actually ask your business appears in the answer. A score of 0% is entirely normal as a starting point and is where most businesses begin. What matters isn't the absolute number but its direction month over month.

How the number is produced

You take the questions a real customer would ask, run them across several models, and count in how many answers you appear. That percentage is the score.

Because models don't give the same answer every time, a single test tells you nothing. What matters is the pattern across enough questions and models.

0% is not a failure

It's the normal starting point for the vast majority of businesses, especially outside the very large brands. It simply means the models don't have enough signals to connect you with your category.

The useful takeaway isn't “I'm at zero”, it's “who appears in my place, and why”.

What a realistic target looks like

Consistent presence at 20-30% on your core questions is already a strong position for a small or mid-sized business — it means one in four relevant questions puts your name in front of the customer.

100% is neither realistic nor a sensible goal: answers hold few names and vary with phrasing.

Watch what moves before the score

The score is the last thing to move, because it depends on models refreshing. What moves first are the signals: pages that answer real questions, structured data, reviews, third-party mentions.

If those are improving and the score is flat for a month, the work is on track — it just hasn't surfaced yet.

How to read the monthly measurement

  • Look first at which questions you're missing — that's where the work is.
  • See which competitors appear in your place, and what they have that you don't.
  • Check whether what AI says about you is accurate.
  • Compare with last month as a trend, not as a grade.

Frequently asked questions

How soon should I see a change?

Typically two to three months from making substantive changes. Models refresh their data periodically, so there's an inherent lag.

Why did my score drop when I changed nothing?

Model answers shift and competitors move. Small fluctuations are normal — worry about a sustained downward trend, not a single month.

What is the personal brand score?

It measures whether models recognise the person behind the business. It often moves first, especially in services, and pulls the company along with it.
